METALSITE FOR CHROME · BY TECHABOUT

Keep the right tools beside the material.

A metal sourcing toolkit for the pages you work with, with offline calculations and a private notebook.

CALCULATE. COLLECT. ENQUIRE.

From a specification
to a clearer enquiry.

Estimate the weight of a plate, bar or tube. Keep the grade, quantity and source together. Prepare an RFQ while the material is still in front of you.

Version 1.2.0 is available as a private test build.
The public store listing is not available yet. This page will link to the verified listing once it is published.

A SIMPLE CALCULATION31.4 kgOne carbon-steel sheet · 1,000 × 2,000 × 2 mm
Nominal density 7,850 kg/m³ · estimated weight

Weight and cost, offline.

Six shapes, nominal densities and a custom-density option. Work in metric or imperial dimensions and calculate cost from your own quoted unit price.

A sourcing notebook.

Save selected material text with an explicit right-click action, or add your own specification. Edit, search and export notes, then prepare an RFQ draft for review.

The market you choose.

Optionally load MetalSite community indications by country and currency. Bids, offers and completed trades stay separate. Insufficient activity is shown clearly.

Follow the movement.

Build a local history from actual qualifying MetalSite observations. Compare the same material, city, currency and report type, with the observation dates visible.

Your workspace, connected.

Sign in or register on MetalSite, approve a limited Chrome connection, and view your listings, requests and private conversations. Reply directly after reviewing your message.

A menu for the next move.

Jump to your listings, buy requests and inbox. Open the normal listing form, search recent records, and use editable reply starters.

Decisions, with your permission.

Accept, reject or withdraw eligible proposals after confirmation. Administrators can separately approve access to pending-publication reviews.

Headlines from the industry.

Load dated headlines from MetalSite, the World Steel Association and the American Iron and Steel Institute. Read the full story at its publisher or save the link locally.

Designed for the sourcing work.

The extension opens in Chrome’s side panel, leaving the supplier or material page in view. The calculator and notebook work without a MetalSite account or internet connection. Website actions such as publishing an RFQ use the normal MetalSite sign-in and moderation process.

Continue the conversation.

Open Workspace in the extension to connect your account. Match the approval code on the website, then return to Chrome and check the connection. See your own account details and activity counts, refresh private conversations and send a reviewed reply. Manage or revoke connections from connected tools. Connections expire after two hours.

Your calculations and notes stay with you.

Saved notebook records are encrypted in the extension’s local Chrome storage. Remembering calculator inputs is optional. The extension does not monitor browsing history, read pages in the background, upload your notebook or place bids automatically. Selected text and its source URL are saved only when you use the capture action; URL query strings and fragments are removed.

Market data is optional. Access is requested only for metalsite.com, and can be removed inside the extension. Loading indications requests the chosen market and currency; normal connection metadata is also received by MetalSite and its hosting/CDN services.

A useful estimate, with clear limits.

Weights use nominal densities and simple straight-section geometry. Grade, tolerances, coatings and corner radii affect actual weight. Cost estimates use the unit price you enter and exclude freight, taxes, processing and wastage. Confirm the final details with your supplier.

Country market indications follow MetalSite’s published method. A number appears only when enough comparable reports pass review. These are reference indications, not executable offers or guaranteed exchange prices.
